Our mission is to provide resources that can help students prepare their speeches every year and to encourage everyone to do their best.

Dear parents, teachers and visitors,
Every year during the public speaking competitions, students in Grades 4-8 are preparing speeches everywhere across the Halton Catholic District School Board. For some schools, Grade 1-3 students are working on choral and poetry readings.
To help students accomplish better results and have fun during this learning process, my son and I working together with the Principal of his school, have built a site called OurSpeeches.com to publish all the speeches created in the public speaking festival. We want to put all the speeches we can find, including those from past years, on the website so that we can create a great resource for everyone to share.
Why do we want to build a site like this?
First of all, I believe that public speaking is a skill which can benefit anyone for a lifetime. Personally, I have long been admiring people who are great public speakers because every time I stand in front of a group of people, I get really nervous and sweaty. The first time I heard that my son's school participates in public speaking contests every year, I was really excited because I truly believe that it is a natural way to improve students' oral presentation skills.
Secondly, I always remember the saying that the Principal mentions every school year: "It takes a whole village to raise a child." As a parent, a member of the school community, I was wondering how I could help. It's more than just being a volunteer at the school. I knew that I could do more to benefit children. Building a children's website like OurSpeeches.com is something that my son, a Grade 5 student, and I, love to do, even if it means a lot of hard work.
At last, what we also want to accomplish, is to provide a space where students can share their experiences with other students, learn from their past experiences and learn from others to achieve better results year after year.
